Speaker Bio
Dr. Daniel Sadowski is Professor of Medicine at the University of Alberta. He received his MD from the University of Saskatchewan in 1984 and completed his Gastroenterology Fellowship at the University of Calgary in 1992. He has a special interest in gastrointestinal motility, particularly diseases of the esophagus. He is the former director of the GI Motility Lab at the University Hospital in Edmonton.
His research interests are in the diagnosis and epidemiology of achalasia, the diagnosis and management of GERD and the influence of bariatric surgery on foregut function.
During his career, Dr. Sadowski has been an advocate for organized colon cancer screening programs at the national, provincial, and regional levels. He was the former Quality Lead for the Alberta Colorectal Cancer Screening Program. Most recently, he spearheaded the provincial guidelines on post-polypectomy surveillance.
Dr. Sadowski has provided leadership to the Canadian Association of Gastroenterology (CAG) serving as President (2012-2014) and Past-President (2014-2016). He has served as a member of various CAG sponsored consensus panels on issues such as GERD, bowel preparation for colonoscopy, patient wait times and colonic polyp surveillance. He served as moderator for the CAG Clinical Practice Guidelines on adult Crohn’s disease, video capsule endoscopy and pediatric Crohn’s disease. He organized and chaired the recent CPG on bile acid diarrhea.
Most recently, Dr. Sadowski has served as the Physician Lead for Lumens and a Provincial Medical Lead for GI – CAT implementation in the Central and Edmonton Zones.
